چکیده

The inclusion of a pole-zero vector predictor in the backward loop of an AVPC coder[1] is approached . We hope to reach the same profit shown by the pole-zero predictor in the ADPCM-CCITT standard. By using a VLMS transversal algorithm the obtained behaviour does not outperform the all-pole scheme. We argue it is due to the dependence on the eigenvalues spread of the LMS perfomance. By using an orthogonalized-lattice structure this problern can be overcame. The zeros term shows an aditional advantage consisting in the removal of the artificial correlation introduced by the pole term of the predictor. This Ieads to a better profit of the VQ ability and a good coding perfomance of the whole system.

Backward adaptive RBF-based hybrid predictors for CELP-type coders at medium bit-rates

Nonlinear prediction is a natural way to increase the quality of speech coders. Several approaches have been recently proposed in this direction ([1,2,3,4] are some examples) and most of them use neural networks as predictors. Nevertheless, the computational cost due to the network training is very high, since it usally involves a gradient descent-based nonlinear optimization process. In this p...

Adaptive Linear Prediction in Speech Coding

Adaptive linear prediction is commonly used as a key step in digital coding of speech. This paper discusses some of the techniques that have been developed for adapting and coding the predictor coefficients in speech coders. The linear predictors in high quality speech coding often consist of two stages, a short-time span (formant) filter and a long-time span (pitch) filter. The use of such fil...

Low-Delay Speech Coding at 16 kb/s and Below

Development of network quality speech coders at 16 kb/s and below is an active research area. This thesis focuses on the study of low-delay Code Excited Linear Predictive (CELP) and tree coders. A 16 kb/s stochastic tree coder based on the (M,L) search algorithm suggested by Iyengar and Kabal and a low-delay CELP coder proposed by AT&T (CCITT 16 kb/s standardization candidate) are examined. The...

A Continuously Adaptive Vector Predictive Coder (avpc) for Speech Encoding

In this work we present a waveform speech c~ ding system including vector quantization. This system can be seen as a vector version of the scalar ADPCM speech coder. In such system the speech samples are grouped in vectors that are coded by a vector quantizer when its prediction subtraction has been made. This is obtained in the coder by a vector Due to the non-statio narity of the speech signa...

A Context-based Adaptive Predictor for Use in Lossless Image Coding

In this paper, we propose a context-based adaptive predictor for use in lossless image coding. Most often, lossless image coders utilize non-adaptive linear predictors for the sake of simplicity and to reduce the complexity of the coder. In DPCM-based lossless image coders, adaptivity can result in significant improvements in the performance. However, adaptive prediction is faced with a number ...
